So it was that time of the year for our yearly pilgrimage to that blessed spot of California where afficionados gather for Car Week in August. And you best believe it turned out grand, as expected. Well, we – on the Suixtil front – experienced a slight malfunction as we eneded up not exhibiting but, in a classic case of “given lemons…” we ended up spending more time contemplating the (very, very many) gorgeous sights as well as covering our “usual haunts”. So yes, before heading to the Concours on Sunday, we visisted the new Automobilia show in Seaside, spent quite some time at Retro Auto (where we met the ever kind and graceful M. Le Mans himself) and quickly had a look to the beauties on offer at RM Sotheby’s – busy times indeed.

And then it was Concours Sunday and it all started… first of all, with the now famous Dawn Patrol that you would not want to miss, because, aside from the dougnuts and coffee kindly offered by Hagerty:

And then things kicked off in earnest, with judges going around and the public starting to take a measure of what was really on offer that day – the greatest gathering of the greatest cars – the Maserati line-up alone….. And so it went, but don’t just take our word for it, rather, have a look at the few photos we brought back – of course, they are slightly slanted towards our filed of interest, sorry – or maybe not – for that. And as to the Bugatti winner? We’d already seen our friend Mick, properly attired, drive it, so we knew…

Of course, on the way back we also stopped by the exhibition held by the Casa Ferrari, just above the Concours lawn and it did not disapoint either, with a selection of prancing horse beauties that surely cannot be equaled – check this:

And then we made our way back to base, while marveling at the passions our hobby generates, something that was also evident along the roads and parking lots and thefore hopeful that we still have many more years left to enjoy such great shows, as long as the custodians keep their faith going to – at life speed!
