And there you have it… mixed metaphors simply don’t work. And still, there is much to be said about the Leaky Tap – the Kraantje Lek, in Dutch.
Yes, it is a restaurant – located nor very far from the Zandvoort track, where F1 racers used to meet-up for a good time (or three) before, after their races. It was also the destination of a challenge rally in which Maus Gatsonides (he, who also invented the dreaded Gatsometer, and was also a fierce rally driver) took part in before becoming its organizer. And it was therefore a logical point for Alexander– our Dutch distributor and friend – to use as a rallying point when he bravely decided to (re)launch the race as a regularity (and, especially, fun) small-scale event.
Now in its fourth year, participants, and with the restrictions made necessary by the pandemic, the rally was still held in that first weekend of March. It turned out wonderfully – what else would you qualify a gathering of such British luminaries as a Morgan, a Triumph and 3 Jaguar, along with beauties from France (that SIMCA 9 Sport…), Italy (that pre-war Lancia is simply nothing short of spectacular), Germany (by way of Stuttgart, of course) and even the Netherlands (a couple of DAF) in such difficult times. And everything went particularly well – as the pictures underneath attest (even if the weather, predictably for this time of the year, meant that friends with the foresight of sporting their Silverstoneor Sebringfared better than those who had overlooked the need) .
So a big Bravo to the entire gang – may their example be both a beacon of hope and an inspiration that we will soon leave all these headaches behind and start anew with the practice of our gatherings of aficionados around our shared passion – at life speed!
And, before we leave you to enjoy the photos of the events – please bear a thought for Robbert and Martin who braved everything to share them with you and make sure you have only the best of impressions of life in the lowlands…. we thank them profusely once again!
